About Daniel Houtman

Daniel is originally from upstate New York. As an adult he lived in Seattle, Washington for many years and travelled the world before finally finding his home in Australia. Daniel lives in a tropical rainforest on a mountain near Cairns, Far North Queensland.

I was born with the gift of healing. As a child I didn’t know what it was, just that I felt good when I helped someone. As I got older I developed a strong knowing between what was right and what was wrong for me. God was laying the path I was to take. My job was to listen and follow the directions given to me.

I have been blessed to have been able to travel the world spending time with the wise ones of many cultures on my journey to learn and grow.

I have been working with spirit to help heal people for over 50 years now. I earned a Masters degree in Counselling and a Doctoral degree in Oriental Medicine, focusing on Qi Gong spiritual energy. Along with the teachings of the Elders, these qualifications have supported my ability to help people.

I am still following the directions God gives to me and enjoy being spirit led in my life and my work. I love to introduce people to the wonders of healing and support their connection to Source.

Those who came before me:

Joyce Hawkes

One of my first teachers was Joyce Hawkes PhD, biologist turned spiritual healer. Joyce took me under her wing as a young man and taught me how to use my natural skills. Joyce later came to write the book Cell Level Healing. Joyce introduced me to the magic of Bali and the healing world of the Balians. I will forever be grateful to Joyce for the support she has provided me.

Lily Siou

Master Chang Yi Hsiang (also known as Lily Siou) lived and taught in Honolulu, Hawaii.  As founder of the World Medicine Institute (formerly known as Tai Hsuan Foundation), she created a school unique to the United States and for forty years dedicated herself to training students in traditional Taoist healing arts, acupuncture, qi gong, and herbal medicine.

Originally from Shang Ching, Lung Hu Shan, Jiangxi, Master Chang began her Taoist training with Master Chang En Pu at age six in the monastery.   In 1969, she became the 64th generation Taoist lineage holder of a 2000 year old tradition inherited from the Han dynasty.  In addition, she held a Ph.D. in Chinese philosophy and integrated medicine.  She was considered a "living treasure" by the Hawaiian government and participated in international medical research.   More about Dr. Chang Yi Hsiang

Dr. Chang was my mentor for many years and I gained my Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree under her tuition.

Dr Paul ‘Pa’ Adu-Twum

I learnt much from Pa Chum, a venerable traditional healer from Ghana. During the 1980's I worked with Pa at his health clinic in The Gambia to provide traditional healing to the local community. He taught me many things. He was a wise and good man.

Mangku Ketut Liyer - Balian

Famous as the healer in the book and film Eat, Pray Love, Mangku Liyer counted himself as the 9th generation of mystics in his family. He took on his sacred rote at about the age of 20 and practiced as a holy man for nearly seven decades. I first met Mangku Liyer during one of the darker moments of my life. He asked me why it had taken me so long to find him, he had been waiting for me for a long time. He taught me about the way of the Balian, the traditional healers of Bali.
